BBFC: RATINGS

British Board of Film Classification

These are the ratings that are given to films by the cbbfc board. In the image as well it explains the age groups and the sign that represent that age group. So if a movie has a ‘U’ it represents that its suitable for everybody and all age groups can watch that particular movie.

Guidelines used to rate films:

o   The ratings are mainly based on what the public thinks about. They update their way of rating every four years by asking parents, teenager and general public about how they think the movies can be rated and what is suitable for each age group.

Ø  What is U?

Universal (suitable for all)

Ø  What is PG?

This means that the film can be viewed by all ages but some of the scenes may not be suitable for certain young group of children.

Ø  What is 12A?

Films rated with this are suitable for the children aged 12 and above and are shown in the cinemas

Ø  What is 12A and 12 age ratings

Children younger than 12 may see the movie, but they need to be accompanied by an adult.

Justifying the movies age ratings which are similar to our movie:
This movie is a thriller horror which was given the age rating of 15 as It contains strong bloody violence. it was given this rating because of its content which might not be suitable for the kids below 15.

Black Swan- the concept of this movie is similar to what we are planning to do for our movie. this movie is another one of psychological thriller. it was given the ratings of PG i.e. parental guidance because the movie contains violence which may not be appropriate for children under 12 to watch themselves without their parents guidance.

Seven- it was given the ratings of 18 because the movie contains violence which is inappropriate and extreme for the children under 18.
We would rate our movie 15, as Its going to be a psychological thriller which may contain of a few disturbing scenes and peers under 15 might not be able to handle it.
